IBPS Clerk 2025 Recruitment Overview

Eligible and interested candidates can apply for the position of Customer Service Associate in any of the participating public sector banks listed under the Common Recruitment Process (CRP CSA-XV) for the 2026-27 vacancies.

Candidates must register for the recruitment process. The examination will be conducted in two stages:

  1. Online preliminary exam (a qualifying round)
  2. Online Main exam (for final selection)

Only candidates who pass the Preliminary stage and are shortlisted will advance to the Main exam.

Based on the actual vacancies to be filled during the financial year 2026-27, as determined by the business requirements of the Participating Banks and communicated to IBPS, shortlisted candidates will be provisionally assigned to one of the Participating Banks. This allotment will be made according to merit and candidate preference, while adhering to government reservation policies, administrative necessities, and other relevant guidelines.

Stages of IBPS Clerk Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Exam

The first phase is the Preliminary Examination, conducted online, with three sections: English Language, Numerical Ability, and Reasoning Ability. Candidates must achieve the required cutoff in each section to qualify for the Main Examination. Prelims scores are not included in the final selection, but passing this stage is necessary to advance.

  1. Mains Exam

The second phase is the Main Examination, also held online, which is open only to those who clear the Prelims. This exam includes General/Financial Awareness, General English, Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude, and Quantitative Aptitude. Candidates need to meet the minimum sectional and overall cutoffs. The scores from this stage determine the final merit list.

  1. Document Verification

After clearing the Mains, selected candidates must undergo Document Verification. At this point, candidates must provide all necessary documents and certificates to confirm their eligibility and identity. Properly organized paperwork helps prevent any issues at the time of verification.

  1. Local Language Proficiency Test (LLPT)

Candidates applying for a specific State or Union Territory must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the designated local language. If you provide proof—such as a 10th standard or higher mark sheet—showing you studied the local language, you are exempt from the language test.

Otherwise, after clearing the Online Main Exam or being provisionally allotted, you will need to pass a qualifying language proficiency test conducted by the bank or an independent agency before joining. Candidates who do not clear this test will not be appointed and will be disqualified from the process.

IBPS Clerk Selection Process Interview

The IBPS Clerk selection process does not involve an interview stage, distinguishing it from exams like IBPS PO or SBI PO, which do include interviews. Candidates are chosen based entirely on their performance in the main examination; after the mains, a document verification process is conducted to confirm eligibility.

The preliminary examination acts only as a qualifying round and serves primarily for screening; marks from the prelims are not counted towards the final merit list.

For clerical roles, which are customer-facing and operational rather than managerial, the absence of an interview simplifies the selection process and increases accessibility for more candidates.

IBPS Clerk 2025 Provisional Allotment Process

  • Provisional allotment is made based on merit and candidate preference (merit-cum-preference).
  • The allotment depends on the final number of vacancies reported by the participating banks.
  • Candidates from reserved categories selected under general category norms will be treated as general category candidates.
  • In case of a tie in scores between two or more candidates, the merit ranking is decided by the candidate’s date of birth, with older candidates ranked higher.
  • Allotment is provisional and subject to candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria of the participating banks and passing identity verification.

IBPS Clerk 2025 Exam Pattern

The IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in two online stages: the Preliminary and the Main examination.

IBPS Clerk 2025 Preliminary Examination

The prelims assess aptitude, reasoning, and English skills, with three sections. Candidates must score above the sectional cut-off to proceed to the mains. Each section is allotted 20 minutes, totaling 100 marks for the paper, and the overall duration is one hour. The passing marks are decided by IBPS and may vary each year based on exam difficulty.

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
English Language303020 minutes
Numerical Ability353520 minutes
Reasoning Ability353520 minutes
Total10010060 minutes

Passing each section is necessary to qualify, by scoring the minimum cut-off marks, decided by IBPS. A set number of candidates, depending upon requirements from every category, advance to the Online Main Exam.

IBPS Clerk 2025 Main Examination

The mains now feature 155 questions for 200 marks across four sections, with a 120-minute duration. The revised pattern increases pace and requires effective time management.

SectionQuestionsMarksTime
Reasoning Ability406035 minutes
English Language404035 minutes
Quantitative Aptitude355030 minutes
General/Financial Awareness405020 minutes
Total155200120 minutes

A penalty of 0.25 marks applies for each incorrect answer, but no penalty is charged for questions left blank.

Final Score Calculation:
Scores from the Preliminary round do not affect final selection; only the Main Exam marks count. Candidates must clear the Mains to be considered for final allotment. Merit is determined within each category based on the aggregate marks out of 100 from the Main Exam.
